Transfers between shops: Rigour and Control

In a jewellery business, where every piece represents a high value and every gram counts, transferring items between shops cannot be treated as a simple stock movement. It is a strategic operation that requires control, traceability and rigorous organisation.
With several shops, the ability to redistribute items efficiently can make the difference between idle stock and completed sales.
• Transfer based on data, not perceptions
The decision to transfer pieces should be backed by clear indicators: item turnover, performance by shop, seasonality and specific demand. A product that sells slowly in one shop may be in high demand in another.
Analysing sales by period, best month of the year or most popular categories lets you anticipate needs and strategically reinforce each shop. You will find some of these indicators in the Dashboard.
• Internal document and mandatory traceability
Each transfer should be formalised with a Transfer Note, available under Movements → Items → Stock, clearly identifying the destination shop, date and person responsible. In a jewellery business it is essential to record:
- Item code and description
- Weight
- Serial number, where applicable
- Cost price
The valuation of the piece must remain unchanged, ensuring accounting consistency and margin control.
• Immediate stock update
One of the most common mistakes is a delay in updating the inventory. In ourives, stock is updated immediately, removing the item from the source shop and adding it to the destination shop. This is the only way to avoid duplicate sales or inventory inconsistencies.
• Transfers as a strategic tool
When well managed, transfers between shops are no longer just an operational necessity and become a strategic tool for optimising stock. They let you balance collections, respond faster to local demand and maximise the overall profitability of the business.
In a sector where control is key to sustainability, organised processes and supporting technology become essential allies.
